The Water Crisis

Water pollution is a problem, but with the current problems of drought and whatnot its hardly the issue. Simply having water is the issue.

So I'd like to do some math. If kind anon would check my work and help out I'd appreciate it.

There are three types of water: fresh, brakish, and salt.

Fresh water has to be decontaminated from bacteria and parasites and pollution thus has a cost.

Brakish water has all the problems that fresh water does, but it also has to be desalinated. Desalination costs between $1.25 and $2.60 per 1k gallons.

Saltwater has all the problems. Desalination costs between $3.60 and $5.80 per 1k gallons.

USA uses about 350 billion gallons of water per day. (350,000,000,000)

The cost of desalinating saltwater is...

...over two trillion dollars per day at the worst possible estimate of everything being saltwater? That can't be right.
