>>12662311The only reason why we still use LaTeX nowadays is network effect. Since effectively conferences and journals ask for (La)TeX sources it means we have to use it anyways.
The hard truth is that (La)TeX is a technically obsolete tool.
The underlying programming language is refined schizo shit from the 70's that was clearly designed by a Track A guy completely clueless about PLT. ML and system F are both from 72 for Gödel's sake. So when you want to actually use the metaprogramming facilities of TeX you start weeping tears of blood through your anus.
Furthermore, the backend, which is one of the reasons TeX is touted for, is not even that great. Yes, compared to crap like Office, it's a decent engine, but there is not even the beginning of a competition there. It might have been a feat to write in the 70s, but it's 2021 now and a rendering layout as good as TeX is something you can code as a summer project. Heck, you can even easily make it more powerful to support richer contents, while TeX is stuck to archaic design choices.
So, OP, fuck you. I am forced to use LaTeX and would willingly use it over any WYSIWYG editor, but it's effectively an outdated piece of crap.
