dunno what country you're from but in the US a BA is usually demanded as it's how the "true" engineering-interested people are separated from other workers. An AS is easy for most tradesmen to get using night classes, whereas a BA requires a minimum 3 summers off work. And this is before the actual sponsored work that leads to final CE accreditation (eg, the ability to sign official blueprints and serve in an official civil engineering capacity).
