Chimps/the Great Apes obviously see the Moon and its cycles as it orbits the Earth, and more obviously than that, the Sun, day-to-day. Do you think they have any thoughts about it? Do you think if they do those thoughts represent the first flickerings of religiosity? I know people speculate Chimp rock-hurling at trees and challenging thunder with loud displays are forms of proto-religion, but what do they think about the things that are obvious and prominent in the sky? Did religion bud off from noticing these objects? If the great apes can perceive that there's something special about the Sun and Moon, what mental form do you think that perception takes?
