But just because we can breed elephants to be the size of a German Shepard doesn't mean they'd make good house pets. They're highly intelligent mammals with their own desires that might not align with yours. The females are very social and would not do well without other female elephants in the house. The males are solitary but get very dangerous when mating season comes around. You'd need to spend time and effort to breed out these behaviors, which might take orders of magnitude longer than breeding them for smaller size.
