Basically, the differences exist but don't really mean much and can be explained away via education access. The single largest predictor of someone's IQ, as measured by a test, is their SAT score. IQ tests are just glorified GRE tests.

I completely agree that we need better methods to measure intelligence, but I don't think the results of these better methods will change the trends that we see in IQ test results. They will just be more precise.

It's wrong. Kids are already smart or dumb before entry to the education system and all of them getting x years of schooling doesn't give them all the same iq in the end.
High IQ causes people to go further in education, more education doesn't cause higher iq.

High IQ is a complex coordinated set of behaviors that result in pattern matching, deduction, and induction. Correlated to general factor g which is related to raw clock speed. Implies that there are biochemical, physiological hardware advantages.

This corroborates studies of inheritance. Probably 0.6-0.8 hertiability coefficient.

We know many ways to reduce IQ (neglect, abuse, malnutrition) but there aren't any effective ways to add to it. The idea that you can realistically add IQ is extremely dated. It's the same as height. You can easily disrupt growth in many ways, but beyond providing the best nutrition, how would you add an inch?

It's also worth taking a look at some of the more controversial gene studies.

Specific alleles for sphingolipid handling enzymes and dendritic branching chemotaxis found in Ashkenazi Jews. Too much of this effect they were selecting for gives you schizo or Tay Sachs.

There are also an interesting host of regulatory RNAs which probably contribute to specific brain development regions much like the language RNA for FOXP2, the "fastest evolving gene ever" as determined by Ka/Ks nucleotide replacement analysis.

I thought Cochran's theory hadn't panned out much in the 15 years since it appeared and GWAS really got going - I recall reading gwern saying no genes have been found which trade off in the manner he and Harpending suggested. It was more like the only negative association with IQ enriching genes found was myopia and autism.

That said I still continue to believe it - the idea that many Ashkenazim owe their intelligence to an "overclocking" effect of the nervous system seems obviously true to me, funny as it sounds to type it out that way.
