if |x^2 - 9| < 7 |x - 3| and |x - 3| = 7 (|x - 3|) / 7 then for |x - 3| < epsilon / 7 we have |x^2 - 9| < epsilon since 7 (|x - 3|) < epsilon.

what exactly is hard? if |x+3| < 7 and |x-3| < epsilon, then clearly |x+3| * |x-3| < 7 * epsilon

consequently, if you set |x-3| to instead be equal to epsilon / 7, |x+3| * |x-3| < 7 * epsilon / 7 = epsilon.
