Longitudinal waves is a "disturbance" being propagated across a transmission medium.
The transmission medium itself compresses & expands in order to propagate the "disturbance".
There is no medium in space, hence why sound isn't propagated.
Longitudinal waves are all limited to the speed of sound.
My personal definition of "scalar-waves" able to propagate instantly is neither Longitudinal nor traverse, but I have chosen to keep it to myself until I've both experimentally verified & made a sit-load of money via industry-secret.
