To be realistic, Starship likely WON'T carry any people until Biden is voted out/stroked out since they'll need a few years of unmanned service to be sure it's up to the task. Regulations could be overcome by moving to another country. Insider story about NASA. I had a student once who secured a master thesis at NASA, my professor knows a PhD student there. He got everything he needed. Scheduled flights got visa etc. The thing is the visa is only good for three months, so he additionally already booked flights to leave the country and return with a fresh visa. If you write a contract stating "I will deliver X, by the date Y, for Z money" it is not generally considered a subsidy. ULA for example gets genuine subsidies, in addition to the above mentioned contract for rendered services, the US government just gives them money with no strings attached. SpaceX gets extremely small amounts of this free money, less then 1% of what their (domestic) competition gets.

Maybe I'm ignorant but that part seems like one of the hardest bits of the whole Starship framework. If they can get the skydive maneuver to work, I don't see why they couldn't build the lower boost stage as well. Then there's still the tanking part to demonstrate, and at that point, don't they basically have a working Starship

Obviously the shuttle would not get into orbit without the SRBs. But the shuttle also would not get into orbit with the SSMEs.

The SRBs stayed with the shuttle until it was going a bit more than 5,000 km/h and about 45 km up. The shuttle then continued without the SRBs until it was going about 30,000 km/h, to 400 km or more. So you see when these numbers are your perspective, the SSMEs are doing "more" to get the shuttle into space.

But as I said, the shuttle would not get to space without either. Not even close. And thunderfoot is an actual retard, this is not a defense of thunderfoot's idiocy. Since both the SRBs and SSMEs were obviously necessary to get the shuttle into space, calling the shuttle reusable in the same way as super heavy / starship is very disingenuous at best. I think his gimmick is "being opinionated with a british accent" which many Americans seem to have a psychological weakness for. I for one blame David Attenborough's documentaries on PBS creating this bullshit association between intellectualism and an accent.

My current car is a Honda that's getting close to 20 years old, so I can confirm that. I've been pretty happy with it all these years, so Honda is a brand I'd definitely consider again. However I've also heard some mutterings about Mazda rejecting touch screen interfaces and returning to tactile physical buttons for everything. I like that a lot, so that's something I would look into.

Touch screens seem like such a horrible interface for something that you drive. People need to step back from local events and look at the big picture. Tesla scaled from couple dozen cars made by hand to getting majorly automated cars in 10 years. The ONLY reason you hear about Tesla build qualities are due to them being new and people fear change so they notice all sorts of problem. Not realizing these problems exists in plenty of older cars produced by GM/Ford/Fiat. Its purely a psychology game, not an actual build issue.

If we extend an actual aggressive sales stop of gas cars by 2030, then that means the oldest gas cars would die out by 2050. 30 years time between now and 2050 is more than enough time for solar to grow significantly, for batteries of all types to grow in use significantly.
30 years is a LONG time. in 2050, I'll be in my 60s. You'll be in your 50s. 30 years ago, the simpsons aired for the first time in history.

Wrong. If you're saying solar is profitable because of government giving "trillions" then you're saying everything you own, eat, see, live, breathe is same as solar. Its completely false. Solar panel are profitable before any subsidy takes place. If you try to bring in incentives for manufacturers to build factories, then all factories are like this. You can literally buy a Solar Panel right now from online and have it be profitable in 4 years.

We also don't have earthquakes or other major natural disasters here, yet still people oppose building more nuclear plants. Sure building the plant is expensive, but it's so much more efficient than wind turbines could ever hope to be. Solar also isn't viable in our latitude, and as far as I'm concerned, sealing rivers with hydro plants isn't very green

NASA is crippled by the fact that JWST is more than 3000% over budget and 14 years behind schedule. They don't have infinite manpower at NASA, theres a limited number people who can work on those projects and JWST has doubled it's staff recently because they're trying to rush to make the June deadline for the October launch even though they already know that they have no shot in hell at making it.
If they would just cancel JWST then they could devote the resources necessary to make other projects work, but as it stands right now JWST is sucking all the wind out of everyone else's sails.
