It's not a random fluctuation: look up what a short squeeze is to understand what's going on. Some retarded hedge funds shorted over 240% of all gamestop shares in existence, but they're also legally required to offset their losses if the price starts going up by buying back into the stock. Reddit realized they could create a positive feedback loop to make hedge funds self destruct and push the stock price up 1000X if they started buying an overshorted stock to raise its price, putting the shorts underwater. It's pure genius.
