Absolute brainlet here.
Can some of you anons enlighten me as to why math lectures are the way they are?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but mathematics exists entirely different from the text it is presented as.
For example: If I just read a definition a won't get its meaning and most likely not even remember it the next day. You actually have to construct examples and counterexamples of the objects defined (and alot of these).
What I mean by this is that you can only learn math by being active yourself, right?
Why then do I have to sit through 90 minutes of someone throwing definitions, theorems and half-assed proofs at my head without me being able to interact in a meaningful way? If I then sit down and actually go through every definition, theorem and proofs in the way described above I'm probably at 40hrs/week already and this doesn't include any problems.
Am I not seeing something here or is the system just retarded?
