No. In August 2006 the International Astronomical Union (IAU) downgraded the status of Pluto to that of a dwarf planet because it did not meet the three criteria the IAU uses to define a full-sized planet. Specifically, Pluto meets all the criteria except one—it has not cleared its neighboring region of other objects.

Yes, but that's a pretty pointless endeavor. You would just end up with a giant piece of molten rock, completely uninhabitable, that will eventually refreeze anyway.

The original motivations for calling Pluto a planet in the first place were largely political. Theoretically the search for Pluto was based on the idea that Uranus' orbit suggested influence from another further object. But the funding for the search came from the fact that America really wanted the accomplishment of discovering brand-new spanking planet.

They looked for decades before they finally found something that fit the bill, and it's sheer chance that they happened to find Pluto instead of one of the other Kuiper Belt opjects first. But as we later kept discovering additional objects, some of which were even bigger and more obviously "planetary" than Pluto.

Astronomers realized that if "planet" was defined broadly enough to include Pluto, it would also have to include a bunch of other rocks we'd found in recent years. So the decision came down to either accepting that we actually had like 12+ planets, or booting Pluto out of the club.

because as we found more shit we realized either we have to redefine a planet so there are only 8 or we have to amend schoolbooks to include 20+ glorafied astroids as planets in the solar system that nobody fucking cares about.

Should the rocky inner planets and the gas giant outer planets all be under the same label? Obviously there are additional labels (rocky, gas, inner, outer) that refine their characteristics as planets but do they have enough in common (orbit the sun, clear their path, etc.) to be lumped together in a single category despite the numerous differences each group has from the other?
