Given how mind-bogglingly complex biochemistry is, I'm sure stopping the electron transport chain (which would happen without oxygen) would cause major problems. Maybe the accumulation of whatever chemical comes before oxygen in the ETC would kick off something else and lead to major issues.

Your physiology isn't structured around ATP transportation through the blood. Rather transporting metabolites and breaking them down with or w/o oxygen.

Each ATP usually gets recycled 1000-1500 times a day so you'd have to inject a fuckton. Also the products from using up ATP (usually ADP and phosphate) would accumulate like crazy.

There has to be a pill you can swallow that will absorb into the blood and stsrt acting like oxygen in the blood. It doesn't even have to be oxygen. It just has to accept an electron at the right moment.
