As to why other Homos don't exist today (I mean the genus homo), there isn't a universally accepted answer AFAIK, a combination of Homo Sapiens killing them off, interbreeding with them (most humans have some degree of Neanderthal genetics in them, with northern Europeans being the "most" Neanderthal and Africans being the "purest" Homo Sapiens) and a failure on their part to adjust to a changing climates.
