I will never forget one student. She came up asking for help and I asked "can you show me your work you've done on the problems in the textbook" and she said "I don't have the textbook". It was 3 weeks before the end of the semester and this bitch hasn't practiced a single problem.
Another one was a similar situation, the weekend before finals, and I ask the guy "Okay, so what charge does hydroxide have?" and he says idk, I ask "which polyatomic ions do you know?" and he said "I never learned any of them". He failed.
There are no shortcuts.
