The core study is closer to math than science for sure, but it’s hard to argue that CS has no hand in scientific results when computers have contributed massive amounts of theory and application to scientific endeavor (the human genome project in bio and AGSP condensed matter come to mind).
Of course every hears computer scientist and thinks software dev who writes 10 pieces of trivial code for 6 figures because that’s the popular image of anything related to CS these days.
