Mirrors aren't perfectly reflective. They absorb a small fraction of the intensity of the light in the form of heat. The speed of light is so fast, it'll bounce back and force along the mirrors hundreds of thousands of times in a millisecond. So even if a mirror is nearly perfect at reflecting, say, 99.999% perfect, the light will still dissipate completely in under a second.
