So ive been trying to wrap my head around how to project or make a sphere that has the pattern of the lower of life. can someone please explain to me how this work. im trying to make it in fusion 360.

the shape appears to be composed of equilateral triangles, but there may be "defects" in OPs image to get it to tile correctly (e.g. sometimes only 5 triangles touch on a vertex as opposed to 6)

never thought about it until now and not that savy with math so i came here

so im trying to make that pattern by making a ring and then revolving it around the center axis and what happens i get maybe one pattern in the middle and everything else gets kinda messed up. anyways thx for the replys im gona try some of this stuff out and see if it get the job done

There's no possible way all of those triangles form hexagons (six triangles meeting in place) and still make a sphere. Some of those triangles must form pentagons (5 triangles meeting in place). I'll look into possible shapes and post what I find.

I've applied autism to the shape. It can be said the photo captures its best angle. I could calculate exact dimensions, maybe even replicate the design, but no one's paying me. If you want one, the simplest way would be to pay the dude from >>12610543 to 3D print you one.

If you want to build something more symmetrical I'd suggest a design starting from
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentakis_icosidodecahedron
or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentakis_dodecahedron
maybe with a finer subdivision. In these designs you can have as many 6-triangled points as you like (provided you make the triangles small enough) but you'll still have exactly twelve points at which only 5 triangles can be attached. These 12 defficient points are a constant, and they form a dodecahedron .

Thnak you for your input. Im actually releved now because i was lossing my mind over this.

Yeah thats the part im trying to reproduce and but the sites 3d viewer was a real pain to use so i couldnt screen that and show you.

Yeah, well I made the mistake in calling that hexagon in the center a pentagon. Either way, the pic in Op is kinda misleading. It doesn't look nearly as good from the side as it looks from the pic.

This right here.
The "flower of life" is a triangle tiling in vertices of 6, which fill the plane, they tile flat, you cannot ake 6-vertices only and expect to make a ball.
An icosahedron has 5-vertices of equilateral triangles. A buckyball has 6-v and 5-v vertices. Probably your best bet.
If you want more (icosahedron has 12 vertices, buckyball about 60) consider a geodesic dome. That's more advanced math though.

Yeah, the simplest with 6-vertices will be modeled on a soccer ball. it will always have at least 12 5-vertices, though.

Got it down, made a truncated icosahedron and im gona go around and add rings where i need and pattern them around. its gona take a bit but it will get the job done
