Sugars are the soft wood of the body—burns fast and easily but not for very long. It disappears into the bloodstream almost as soon as you eat it. Unlike fats which are hard wood, being hard to ignite but providing a steady, consistent stream of energy.
Your body always prioritizes sugar burning, always. Excess energy is stored as fat, but since people are ALWAYS eating sugar with every meal, there is little chance for fat to ever burn out. You're getting all your daily energy from sugars.
This is what the keto diet is based around and though I've never done it, it does appear to be the only diet that is scientifically sound and actually works. You stop eating pretty much all sugars as well as things that metabolize into sugar, like starch, and ONLY EAT foods that are full of fat and protein. This FORCES you to burn fat (you literally lose weight in your sleep) because you're not giving your body any quick and easy sugar energy.
