Will there ever be a return to the Golden age of science (think 19th and 20th Century)?

The amount of new tech in combination with the Internet should have revived the "Gentleman scientist" but instead it kinda killed all progress, bringing us down to a brave new world esque stagnation in and 1984 ideological circlejerking

Will this ever end or is this the great filter that will keep us from the Stars and return us to monke eventally?
