I've completed a master in mechanical engineering and want to do a PhD in robotics, with my own research subject if possible.
From what've read on I basically have to do :
- find & contact uni with robotic departement
- send my cv, cover letter, master degree marks
- send recommendation letters
- [optional] send a research proposal
- [optional] look for funding if not self-funded
I want to do it outside of my country (France), probably Canada or something like this. My grades, converted to GPA are equivalent to 3.25 and I have 104 with TOEFL. I've done several engineering projects with drones and automation and have 1 year work experience. What are my chances if my recommendations letters are weak ( mainly from my workplaces as I am kind of a sperg and never talked with profs in uni ). Are those that important ?
Are self proposed research subject a common occurence ?
And what model should I use for my research proposal? Search results point me to how to write the disseration itself and not the pinch to give an uni?
