Imagine there's someone intubated in front of you. his pH 7.4. As rules of thumb, we consider the incompatible with life limits to be +-0.6 changes. Still someone that reaches either 6.8 or 8.0 doesn't immediately die. If you could try both levels in an exact individual in front of you, who would die first, the one with 6.8 or the one with 8.0?
