Someone has to do it. The supply/demand ratio probably makes it relatively well-paying too. Not to mention, with the Democrats back in power, there will be an ever-increasing number of people messing with their assholes and causing problems they need a proctologist for.

I'm someone considering gastro.
Reasons:
>love GI physiology, pathology, and pharmacology
>get to do procedures as a medical specialty
>scopes are cool and interpreting them and diagnosing and treating on the spot is really interesting and fun
>always was into gross things as a kid, liked weird out there stuff
>lots of research opportunities
>and on top of all that it pays really well and you have control of your hours
so to me it's a no brainer. it's competitive though but I'm working towards it
