OP here,

it's not a homework assignment, I'm unironically writing a paper for a peer reviewed journal in Biology and I have a specific amino acid (aa) sequence that contains the same aa every second position.

Instead of sounding retarded and calling it a GXGXGXG motif every fucking time like a retarded autist, I wanted to call some fancy math shit.

Interlaced is one word you can use. I am guessing there is a much more precise word in music. I am writing a control function that is called between every other function, but I don't think there is a name for one of many possibilities. Data striping XaXa would produce a stack of X's and another stack of A's, but that is rather out there analogy. I think it is not a worthwhile teaching aid try to come up with words for nearly limitless permutations of some string. I guess poker players do it tho.
