We are each a manifestation of attention with conscious control of what that attention is pointed at, with the ability to record observations, contained within a larger system, almost none of which has been observed yet to our knowledge. We each have a duty to try and observe things that have not been observed, to think thoughts others do not think, to each be a slightly different tool in the toolbox if you will. You're here for a time, then you're not, and did you succeed? What did you discover during your time? I feel like if I have a few things to bring back when I'm done, then my time here was justified. I want to look out there more though, I think the planet and our problems here are kind of tawdry and pointless.
So to answer your question, you make children to ensure the continued existence of this universe, just in case it turns off when nobody's looking.
