I don't remember it being 40° in New Hampshire in January when I was a kid
Can climate change still be reversed? If carbon capture stuff ended up advancing a lot and we could suck carbon out of the air would the temperatures and ice caps return to normal?
And what about the massive insect dyings? Can that be reversed somehow? What can be done?

It would take a long time to undo the damage we've done. But there is a lot we can do. MIT has a site up where you can play around with policy and see the projected impacts. Many have a good effect on our situation.
But politicians are fucking us over and refuse to act.

yes but not right away
even if we try now, it takes time to change the course, so the climate will continue to warm for at least a century before eventually cooling down
and even then, it will take time to cool down to pre-industrial levels again

I don't get how we can go from computers being entire rooms to almost invisible nanometers within a human lifespan but advancing carbon capture to the extent of returning the atmosphere to its natural state within the next hundred years is seen as impossible

We can put the brakes on and reduce the amount of carbon we're emitting. Extracting carbon from the air is extremely challenging, better to not emit it in the first place or capture it at source.
Sufficient slowdown will give the biosphere a chance to catch up. We can also look at boosting inorganic carbon capture by spreading crushed calcium silicate rocks on land where water can wash carbonate generated into deep oceans.

nigga just block out the sun why do we need so many threads stressing about this. The USAF tanker fleet alone could put enough sulfur up in the stratosphere to completely halt a runaway greenhouse effect. Once it starts getting bad enough they'll do that, call it a bandaid, and possibly eventually get around to fixing things on a more fundamental level (i doubt this though).
