Japan industrialised after WW2, SK and China started in the 60s and 80s respectively hence Japan has had much more time with a proper educational system, infrastructure and institutions that allow innovation to happen

Japanese contributions started getting substantial before the war, and then accelerated afterwards. But even in the 1930s, Japanese science was developing quite considerably.
America can't take credit for Japanese success. In the Meiji era they went from archipelago shithole to industrial great power in less than a generation, so at some point you have to consider some people and cultures are just better cut out for success than others.

This, except that Japan had become a fairly industrialized nation way before WW2. The Russo-Japanese war of 1905 was the tipping point in the minds of the Japs, since they managed to hold their ground against a major world power like Russia. Meanwhile China and Korea were still like in the Middle Ages. Japan simply has had more time to become what it is today.

Japan is next to China. They borrowed the best parts of China and got to keep the best parts of themselves. Plus they are an island nation that is hard to invade unlike south Korea and Mongolia. It's almost as if they were always meant to succeed. Also for such a tiny country they have a huge population, so they got to innovate on issues that other countries wouldn't have, such as the shinkansen, extremely neat cities, robotics, automated services for the old. I also forgot to mention that they have an extremely mountainous country so they had to stop relying on agriculture to develop their economy.

The truth is due to sakoku and other factors they were basically living in the medieval ages. They modernized because they realized something the other Asian and african powers didn't, and that's that they either got strong or they got fucked. Them being an island nation bought them time, and they used it well, learning European technology faster than anyone else did. They also became extremely violent and warmongering, and while that did show off their power and give them a military capable of dissuading the British, as we all know, it bit them in the ass later on. I'm not sure why this isn't a /his/ thread.
