I've just realized that the likely reason why people are confused by $$a/bc \neq a/(bc)$$ is that your brain naturally wants to split equations along the operator symbols, except multiplication isn't expressed by a symbol at all, it's expressed by concatenation, so it seems intuitive that multiplication should just be done first.
Which really makes me think that PEMDAS was a fucking stupid idea.
