they're really rare, i've seen like two guaranteed trannies, both in separate departments, in my 2 years at uni in person. during orientation they make it seem like every 3rd person is nonbinary or trans or w/e special thing they can come up with though. it feels like a reeducation camp at first its so ridiculously far left.

Because I find math more interesting and the course for maths I was applying to was less competitive at a top5 world uni, meaning better chance to get in and get the elite badge of approval. It's still a stem field so it's not too much of a downside.

Russians might just congregate at a few elite mathematics universities.

A rando midwestern state school isn't going to attract a ton of high end foreign talent. It's going to be a random sampling of midwesterners and chinese kids that just wanted to go somewhere in the US but weren't great applicants

But it is nice to work with experimental transistor or nano electronics. That stuff is fun if you didn't have to put your crap in a cryo and stress test it for shit result.
