Elctrician here, I wasn't interested in physics until I had to learn (extremely basic) physics as part of my apprenticeship.
Then once I understood why some materials are insulators and others are conductors I got interested is what makes things reflective to different energy levels and particals.

Making your self familiar to all the unique things in the world is certainly stimulating and interesting but then I catch a strong feeling that things that don't bring me immediate relief or pleasure are irrelevant and that more joy and freedom can be had in pursuing immediate joy/pleasure as those are the things relevant to me. So I'm very torn at the moment, it's a mental thing I have.

Fellow tradesman here, I have a very similar interest stemming from my couple of years at tech school learning hvac. Its a casual interest but I am going back to school and taking as much math as I can because its fucking cool. I know i'll get soijacked for posting this but I don't care.
