how do they detect where they are in cities anyhow? gps would be spotty due to the tall buildings, no?

Probably a combo of GPS and cell tower triangulation with a 3/4G modem telling the network where they are.

Would a company that needs accurate location data really use wifi maps? Are there wifi networks that only exist as geographical markers of are they counting on people not renaming their networks?
