Realise that democracy doesn't work. It's the rich and influential people that hold the decision making power. What the plebs want is almost irrelevant. So you don't need a majority of the people, just of the wealth. Luckily for mankind, people with lots of wealth tend to be rather intelligent.

And it's not voting power, it's the influence wealthy people wield over policy making. They would do so in a monarchy too.

Democracy flat out does not work and it'll take some time still until people catch on that it's not all of the people that rule.
