>>12571924Because nuclear never developed to the level where mass production makes it profitable. Same thing with the "space industry". Everything used to be single, one-of, super special, and thus hideously expensive and behind schedule. SpaceX has disrupted this in both launch capacity and satellites, which are both produced much more rationally.
Basically the big, one-of build has huge inherent disadvantages for nuclear. Expensive custom design, expensive workforce, expensive troubleshooting when something doesn't work, expensive testing etc etc.
There is a reason why next gen nuclear is near universally being developed as Small Modular Reactors (SMR) because these are possible to mass produce in a central factory and just ship like any other cargo to it's intended destination. Dig a hole and put it in for extra safety.
