>>12570626it all depends on what you want to do. if you're unsure about wanting to do astro, then there's no reason to do an astro major over a physics one. if you're like 85% sure you want to do astro, but want to keep your possibilities open, just make sure you take other advanced general physics courses so that you won't be worse off than the general physics applicants
also keep in mind some schools don't even have an astronomy major, it's just physics with a specialization in astronomy
