Why is nothing written anonymously anymore? Why is everyone obsessed with the credentials, political affiliation, and physical appearance of the author(s) rather than letting a piece of work stand on its own? Also why do we assume that people with "authority" (for example people who are considered authorities in the field of science) did something to "earn" their authority and that there's various checks and balances in play to ensure the "truth" prevails?
