Do you ever waste time with absolutely worthless things? Watching movies, reading genre fiction, that stuff. I’m not putting reading Philosophy, exercising or practising an Art down as useless, as they contribute to building character. But lately I’ve realized just how fleeting time is and how much I’ve wasted on absolute nonsense. I’ve seen thousands of movies. Read thousands of comics. Played hundreds of games and read hundreds of books. But I can only name a few that have stuck with me. People say that you should have something to “escape” with so that your life won’t be just studying, but all this essentially pop-culture consumption feels ultimately hollow. What difference will some Hungarian ArtHouse film make? As soon as I finish a classic story I feel nothing bar mechanically moving onto the next one. Do you have such moments? However, when I try to decipher something like Faust or read Aristotle, I both take a break from my sciences and feel a sense of accomplishment.
I just wonder if anyone here still watches Star Trek or whatever before going to bed, or if your life is strictly work. I hear some folks just consume a specific genre to relax. All mediums but belonging to one “theme”. Westerns, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, whatever. Do you do anything similar?
