Natural diet, natural sleep cycle, no hard drugs. Basically find out whats causing it. Also don't give in to that little voice/feeling that says "check that doorknob again if it really is locked".

Venlafaxine (an SNRI) and CBT was very helpful for me. Sometimes need to go back to therapy if I get a bout of themed OCD again like a few weeks ago had trans OCD.
Go see a psychiatrist.

For me I started seeing improvement within 2 weeks but according to guidelines it can take between 4 and 6 weeks for SSRIs or SNRIs to take effect. It became better with time and fully stabilized on meds with the right dosage around 2 months or so.
CBT sessions were about going into my thought processes and trying to find ways to counter them.
If you want a good resource for CBT self-help if you can't see a therapist right now, this is a good website:

Also this might be helpful too.
But I would still recommend going through a psychiatrist first and seeing what options there are.
I know how bad OCD can be and how much it can destroy your life. Made me fail out of school once.

I am still on venlafaxine.
If you ever decide to go off it, use a tapering regimen based on a physician's recommendation otherwise you'll get terrible withdrawal symptoms.
I once quit my meds cold turkey and got terrible brain zaps, sluggishness, depression, anxiety.
I'm currently still on Venlafaxine and I'm doing great on it. No side effects and the OCD is pretty much gone. My depression is gone as well.
