Hi /sci/, I am not sure if this is the right board for this question but the topic falls somewhere in the DIY/Food Science range so I am going to post it here.

I am interested in making some formalized preparations of a kratom infused beverage. Kratom is a completely legal plant with psychoactive properties. The leaf itself tastes absolutely awful. If you get some plant material briefly caught in the back of your throat as you're trying to ingest it, it's very likely you're going to gag and vomit.

I am wondering if there are any processes you guys could recommend that would help neutralize the flavor of this plant and help me infuse it more effectively into some kind of beverage. I'd like to prepare myself some kratom beers (perhaps bottled).

For what it's worth, there is only one commercial preparation of this on the market and it comes in a 'Citrus Lime' flavor and a 'Cream Soda' flavor. One uses heavy citrus/lime/hops flavoring whereas the other relies on a more sugary approach. Both are pretty bad but are lightyears more palatable than the raw leaf.

Any suggestions?
