Have you ever heard of the 1887 epidemic? Coronavirus would have to kill over 5 million people worldwide in order to be as deadly as that pandemic.

Even the 1957 and 1968 pandemics killed more people worldwide per capita than COVID-19. And nobody cared about those flus.

People only act like COVID-19 is a big deal because we’re spoiled rotten with the quality of medicine today. We don’t have real pandemics anymore.

Because they continue to ignore the numbers as it seems you are. Speaking purely for the US here, but none of our hospitals are equipped to handle the large number of people that would become infected without the precautions we have put in place. Hell, we're running out of space as it is currently with numerous hospitals having to declare a state of emergency and turn away any new patients regardless of their condition. People aren't afraid because they look at their life, see no real difference, and ignore what happens to people that don't happen to be in their circle.

Neil Ferguson is the nutcase behind the Imperial College data. He first gained fame around 2002 by ordering the killing of around 11 million cows and sheep in the UK to prevent the foot and mouth disease, which ended up killing around 50 people.

In 2005ish, he claimed the bird flu would kill 200 million people. This flu ended up killing about 200 people. But a bunch of birds in East Asia ended up being killed because of his predictions.

I’d think the left would abhor Neil Ferguson, with the number of animal deaths he’s responsible for.

That’s the fault of the medical profession. The AMA always lobbies for there to be as few doctors as possibly so that the existing doctors can make as much money as possible. Just like the AMA always lobbies against national health insurance because they’re greedy pigs.

There’s honest mistakes with epidemiology, and then there’s Neil Ferguson. I find it very hard to imagine that Ferguson actually believes the death projections he comes up with.

Ferguson knows that constantly predicting doom is the best way to get media attention, research grants and money. Especially in a country like Britain, which loves sensational stories.
