How does /sci/ take notes ?

specifically talking about academic papers. what software do you use ? do you mark up hard copies or PDFs etc ?

I'm kind of tempted to get a relatively cheap digital tablet for hand writing notes on PDFs as I read papers. I'm not sure if it will be as useful as I am hoping it would be.
