His IFLS! fans are the main thing I hate about him because they're so emotionally attached to him they cannot admit that sometimes Musk fucks up. That's part of being human. We all fuck up. But they need for him to be some sort of perfect science deity they can worship.
His companies are doing some really good work. Some of the people who work at them such as Franz von Holzhausen at Tesla, are being recognized for their work so it's not quite the Edison type of situation where the CEO gets all the credit but obviously lots of it does flow to Musk. This is ok in his role as the leader of the companies but once again, the IFLS! crowd seems to think he's inventing everything himself and his employees are low skill helper monkeys. He's making sure resources flow to these projects. That's his main strength.
