If you want a real neuroscience job, then you'll need to become a physician. If you want clout and to actually do research, the career path is an MD-PhD which is free medical school with a stipend. At that point you've made it and don't even need to get a residency. Secondary careers are just a normal MD and going for psychiatry or neurosurgery. Neurologists really don't know jack shit about pharmacology and hence don't understand how the brain works so I won't go that route.
Neurosurgeons > salary = 1M USD
Psychiatrists > Salary = 220k USD
MD PhD > $2000 a month stipend, free quarters, no medical school expense. Research for 5 to 7 years. When you're done you can go into industry and make around $300k a year if you look based and dress sharply. This is the most financially sound as no debt and no residency and the stipend you get before this makes it worth it.
