I use my mouth to breath to ignore smell. It's 90-100% effective depending on how strong the smell is.

I mean, I do that if the smell is bad.
But overall, yeah. After time, you brain gets used to plenty of smells.
That's why people houses smell like their cleaning products, and they never notice.

But i meant specifically smell
Because you can be bothered at first by noise or visuals as well and then by rejecting it somehow after a couple of minutes your brain can keep you from taking it in. But with smell this seems less doable.

So just like you said sounds and imagery can be filtered out, after a while.
If the smell holds on long enough you can ignore it. I don't know how you would though
it just happens on its own.

yes typically the nose becomes deaf to smell after a long exposure to that smell

its why you cant seem to smell your own house
