I think Lex gets too much flak for seeming dumb just because he's bad at speaking and also tries to dumb things down/paraphrase/ask questions for viewers.
He has some genuine awkward moments in areas outside his expertise, like the Jim Keller interview, and he's not a genius or anything, but he's probably smarter than 99% of /sci/ posters and more accomplished than 99.999% of them
I can't blame anyone for finding him too slow, stilted, boring, or awkward to listen to, but don't assume he's an idiot just based on a few quotes. I think he hides his power level a lot of the time
