then -1 / f ' (x) = i as well since i is the only number to be equal to its negative reciprocal

what I'm saying is how the hell am I supposed to imagine a line being crossed by another line perpendicularly, but they're exactly the same line/function

You do realize that if you wanted to interpret the derivative of a function from $\mathbb{R}$ to $\mathbb{C}$ that you would need to consider the derivatives of the real and imaginary parts separately, which means you take the derivatives of only real valued functions, right?
