The immediate response is to think that more intelligent people swing Left, but I would wager there are too many confounding variables to say. The universities have become a hotbed of Leftist ideology of late by installation of bad ideas. (by kinda intelligent people capable of making stuff happen in the world, but not intelligent enough to know the consequences of their ideology, or to be infected by bad idea pathogens.). Another thing to consider is that intelligence has for the most part become decoupled from education. The higher up you go, e.g. PhD, the more likely you are to find the people who went into the programme because they couldn't find a proper job in the world. For example most of the people on my PhD programme, including me are midwits.
