Dirty CS undergrad anon here. It sems like most jobs out there for us are pure /g/ shit jobs where you just glue together some library and have to learn the new cool framework every few years.
I just want to do cool CS stuff bros. Is there any hope of getting more interesting jobs in the commercial sector if you get a Msc. or PhD first, and is the pay/career progression any better than for undergrads?

Any higher education is worth it. Some might be painful.
You shouldn't actively correlate your major with a job, university is for studying a subject, not job education.

Msc is somewhat similar to bachelor's in that you're just getting more domain specific knowledge in most cases. Do this if there's a specific part of software engineering that you want to break into, like control in flight systems, parallelization with FPGAs, etc etc.
The PhD in CS is very different since you're trying to break into a research career. The path you take will be very different based on the route you want (pure theory like complexity, "applied theory" like efficient algorithms, applications that use pure theory like graphics and differential geometry, systems design, hot topics like ML, interdisciplinary fields like bioinformatics, etc etc.). These are all up to taste, but CS gives you a fairly wide range of interesting choices, each with their own rigor. For example, it should be clear to you that anything that's tagged with theory can be as heavy in mathematics as you want.
The nice thing about a CS PhD is that if you lay your cards out and get connections to industrial research, you can force places to treat you with better pay and tenure options since CS research engineering goes for top dollar, and schools want to hold onto their best researchers. That being said, you'll find it really horrible if research isn't what you like or want to do. Research is its own beast and takes a specific personality type to like. You should do some undergrad research to get a taste.

If you're in it for the money, you should know most economic research doesn't show much returns on getting a PhD for most disciplines (remember you have to forgo years of income and job seniority when you do a PhD). I think the general consensus on /sci/ is that you don't do a PhD for the money. I'm doing a PhD right now and I'm happy with my decision but I know that's not for everyone.

I'm kinda having the same question, I got obsessed with Cyborgs thanks to CP77 and IDK what would be the best, to choose Neuroscience, CS or EE.

non PhD here. Is a PhD worth it? Depends on how much it costs you or if your expenses are paid, if you need to work, or can spend the time at uni to do it, and if you like the subject. I have knows a few who pursued PhDs and had to take an MS as a consolation prize when they ran into some troulbe with the adviser. Also, I have know several candidates where their adviser was strining them along for years.

That aside, form some odd reason people with PhDs are given some type of credibility that they don't deserve when it comes to the notiion that a PhD can run a program, department, company, goverment agency. I have worked with several PhDs that were governor appointees to run large department and fucked everything up because they are incompetent. But, since they get the undeserved credit, why not capitalize on it if you can.

I hate you zoomer faggots who want everything you do to "be cool". This is generally just code for "i'm going to hit a roadblock in what i pick and then i'm going to quit and find something else. i'll hit another road block and then quit and move on to the next shiny object". Rinse repeat. You should instead find interesting things that will fulfill your sense of curiosity and that you can spend long periods of time doing. No one in graduate programs is doing things because they are "cool". "cool" alone won't get you through the long years of work.

I have a MS in CS and work in the private sector now. There are a lot of young zoomers who think like you do.
