>>12534281>can anyone explain why being "smart" enough to get a "good" job requires so much more instruction than being dumb? That's mostly a matter of proving that you're smart. The "instruction" is just education. That's a slip of paper vetting that you're not a dumbfuck.
>shouldn't smart people just be smart enough to figure things out for themselves without needing to receive instruction until they're over 30 years old? Depends on what you want them to do. For some things? For sure. Just go be clever and make a few jokes and nobody gives a fuck what the educational background of a stand-up comedian is. If you make it big there, it's a great life. Go for it if you want that. But there's a trend of jobs that are difficult to fill because in addition to being able to learn quickly, you also need to know what the fuck is happening.
>how come people who fix cars for a living require so much less instruction than scientists and doctors do before they're able to become valuable, contributing members of society?Because only there's only so many cars and so many ways they typically break. The work of a mechanic doesn't need to cover all that much. To expand the field of knowledge on a scientific front, you kinda need to know all the science that we currently know to try and push the boundary. And we know a shit-ton of stuff.
This is honestly a fucking stupid question.
