we have this thread every week or so, but since we did not have it yet this year, I'll indulge: the error if the approximation my an infinitesimal must be a higher order infinitesimal for the integral to be a valid approximation. here the orders are the same.

That shape doesn't converge to a circle, it converges to a diamond. To make it converge to a circle you have to take away varying rectangles from every corner and eventually the perimeter won't be 4.
