Anyways, elementary particles are the smallest quanta of detected or studied forms that energy comes in.
Quarks have never been observed or studied by themselves, but they are presumed to exist anyways as singular entities. They are always connected to other quarks and have never been found isolated before to this day.
The charge is only 2/3 because they wanted a proton to have a charge of 1.
Basically a proton determines what element something is made out of, like gold has a certain number of protons, if it had a different number of protons it would not be gold anymore. The protons are made of two up quarks that are attached to a down quark. And the scientists arbitrarily called the observed electric charge of a proton 1 which is why an upquark is 2/3 and a down quark is -1/3 because two upquarks and a down quark make a proton so a proton has a charge of 2/3 + 2/3 - 1/3 which is 1, and they did that on purpose. An electron has the same charge as a full proton but reversed so it is negative 1 and it is not composed of smaller particles as far as anybody knows as of now.
A photon gets absorbed and released by electrons all the time, photons are what light is made out of. They are electromagnetic and are relevant to electricity and magnets therefore. Electricity is relevant to electrons and electrons are also relevant to metal because electrons behave different in metals.
These elementary particles are what makes the world around you, metals are made of quarks and electrons, light is made of photons.
Elementary particles are what you will see if you keep zooming in so to speak on any matter that exists.
And nobody has discovered anything smaller yet.
